Calling them Cherubs has been a modern day misnomer. Somehow in our day and age they got stuck being called Cherubs, which are 4 winged 4 faced giant angels with the face of an ox, human, eagle and lion with eyes in their wings and flaming swords (not little cute angel babies). As the title says, mythology says these little guys are called Putti.

It's a nice change from all the dire and dark looking faces of angels and demons I have been putting up.

Now you should try drawing Psychai. They are similar to erotes/putti/cupids in that they are humanoid and winged and named after a god. Except that psychai are female, have wings of butterflies, and are named after Eros' consort, Psyche. :)

Personally, I would call them either "Cupids" or "Erotes", arfter the arrow shooting Classical, Graeco-Roman God of Love.:)

Thanks for pointing that out! I did not know they had their own name. Awhile back, I was working on a list of Angels and Devils for an RPG setting. Cherubim and cherubs as two different angels never sound right to me.
